Author Talks

Year K-PP

Sharon will share her hilarious how to picture books through an interactive story time session and help students make your own picture book.

"An author, a bear and a pyjama parade, oh my! The Claremont Community Hub & Library hosted Sharon during Book Week 2021. The children [and parents] both watched on as she brought her heart-warming and funny book “Bedtime Daddy” alive. Sharon was a skillful storyteller who clearly knows how to engage with her audience. Of course, a book about bedtime meant we got to wear our pjs to work… Best day ever! Michelle Campbell - Librarian.

Year 1-2

Sharon will share her middle grade book series THE UTILITY BELT to help students to discover their sidekick animal. Then using the animals' 'superpowers' Sharon will show the students how to design their own utility belt to overcome everyday challenges. For longer sessions this will be used to provide a framework to write their own UTILTY BELT story.

Year 3-6

Sharon will share the characters from all her books and through a character interview board game help students to create their very own character. This character can then be used as a springboard for students to write their own story.

"Sharon was brilliant with our groups for Book Week in 2024! Engaging and entertaining with the children, with plenty of laughs along the way. The create-a-story process included excellent tips on character and setting building, with some lovely singing for the younger groups as well. We’d love to have Sharon back for more!" - John Geijsman Youth Services Librarian - Fremantle Library

“Sharon is absolutely wonderful with young children, and she presented an engaging, interactive, and fun filled story time session to our families at the library. ‘Get ready, mama!’ is a sweet story with a mother and daughter where the typical roles of child and parent are reversed. The theme of daily routines and sequencing were explored in a fun and child friendly way. The session wrapped up with singing songs and dancing that complemented the story perfectly.” Eden Te PunI Librarian – Belmont Library
