Rory Hammersley-Mather

Rory is a big kid, who enjoys picture books, fist bumps and words that rhyme. He found reading difficult as a child, so he writes to foster a love of books in young readers. He lives in Toowoomba with his wife, daughter, and doggo. After years of rejections Rory has had a whirlwind entry into life as a published author being published by some of the biggest publishers in Australia. With his first book coming out in 2020 he has gone on to release 13 more in four years and there are many more to come.

Rory has experience delivering workshops and writing programs to all ages from prep to adults and has spoken to live audiences over 400 strong and online audiences even larger. His talks include, The Art of Picture Books (60 mins), Dreaming Big  (best for highschool or older) (60 mins) and Picture Books 101 (for anyone trying to break into the industry) (45-60 mins) whilst his workshops include Crafting Picture Books - Thinking Inside the Box (best suited to a year 5 audience but adaptable for all primary school (60 mins to 1.5hrs) and Creative Writing 101 (60 mins). From his personal experience of dealing with loss Rory has also developed a talk for adults that covers his own journey through grief, resilience, building a legacy and facing your demons (60 mins).
