Robert Hoge
Robert Hoge was born with a massive tumour, severe facial disfigurement and physical deformities. His memoir tells the story of growing up in Brisbane and the struggle to be recognised for his creativity and intelligence rather than his physical appearance. Robert's sessions provoke powerful and moving discussion about beauty, ugliness and how we value ourselves.
Robert Hoge would be the ugliest person you've met - except you probabaly haven't met him yet. When you do, he'll talk to you about looking strange, being disabled and how we're all a little different from each other. You can also read about those things in his book, Ugly. Robert's inspirational story was captured and aired on the ABC's Australian Story, September 16, 2013.
Testimonials
"I really enjoyed the visit from Robert Hoge because I found his story very interesting and inspiring. I thought he was very confident and brave and he wasn’t afraid to be open with us, which I found really awesome. After his visit, I think I have a better understanding of the acceptance of everyone, no matter how different or unique they are. " Year 6 student.
