Rebecca Timmis
Rebecca Timmis is an author, illustrator and game developer from the sunny Gold Coast in Queensland. She is the creator of the MerTales and Jawsome series for readers 6-9 years, and also illustrates picture books and junior fiction for other writers.

Rebecca has been the recipient of multiple awards, including an Illustration Mentorship Award from the Australian Society of Authors, a short-listing in the Text Prize and the winner of a Golden Taco for her junior fiction series Jawsome.
When Rebecca is not writing stories of magic and mayhem, she writes code for websites. She also loves to go an on real life adventures like almost falling off the Great Wall of China, hiding from grizzly bears in Canada and running away from wild pigs in outback Australia. She has three rambunctious boys and one very patient husband.
Get Your Giggle On – Writing and Illustrating Workshop
This workshop is designed to show students how to bring humour into their narrative work via text and illustrations, using the Jawsome books as a guide. We cover:
- Generating ideas
- Puns and wordplay
- Writing funny storylines
- How illustrations can be used to create or add humour
This workshop includes a mix of writing and illustrating, tailored to suit student needs. Designed for ages 7 - 10 years but can be altered to suit any age group.
