Jade Goodwin
Jade Goodwin is a First Nations illustrator based in the Hunter Valley, NSW. Jade’s creative journey began at an early age in her grandparents' screen printing studio, where she would spend an endless amount of time crafting anything she could from the studio supplies.
Her passion for creativity and illustration grew over time, eventually leading to a successful career in the children’s publishing industry where she brings imagination to life through her sweet and bright illustrations.
In November 2021, Jade signed her first picture book contract with Penguin Random House, which paved the way for her to work with leading publishers such as HarperCollins, Hachette, Allen & Unwin, Magabala, Hardie Grant (Bright Light) and Affirm Press.
Jade's work is notable for its focus on diversity and representation. Jade has illustrated the 2024 campaign for Love Your Bookshop Day with BookPeople and was featured in an NITV/SBS article for her work in bringing authentic representation to children's books.
She is committed to showcasing a range of perspectives through her illustrations, with the aim of inspiring children and adults alike.

Workshops & Talks Overview
I offer a variety of creative workshops and presentations designed to inspire all ages, from young children to adults. My sessions are all about unlocking creativity, learning through fun, and discovering the magic of storytelling through illustration.
Primary and Secondary Students (Years K-8)
- Interactive Storytelling and Illustration Workshops:
I guide students through the exciting process of creating characters and stories, bringing them to life with live drawing demonstrations. It’s a fun, interactive session where students help shape the story and/or a character, sparking their imaginations and showing how simple ideas can grow into something special.
- Character Creation & Drawing Techniques:
In this workshop, we focus on designing characters that feel alive and full of personality. Students will learn to develop their own characters and bring them to life through drawing, thinking about everything from expressions to outfits. It’s not just about technique—it's about making characters that tell a story.
Young Children (Early Years):
- Imaginative Drawing and Storytelling:
For younger children, I keep it playful and easy to follow. We’ll explore storytelling through doodles and simple drawings, turning their imagination into fun, expressive art. It’s all about letting their creativity flow in a joyful, encouraging environment.
Older Students and Adults:
- Unlocking Creative Potential – Overcoming Creative Block:
Inspired by The Artist’s Way, this workshop focuses on helping participants break through creative blocks. We’ll explore simple exercises to reconnect with our creative selves, build good habits, and find inspiration when it feels lost. It’s perfect for anyone looking to reignite their creativity.
- Illustration & Storytelling Techniques:
This session delves deeper into character design, world-building, and how to use colour and composition to enhance storytelling. I’ll share tips for refining artistic style and creating illustrations that complement and elevate written stories. Ideal for those looking to take their illustration to the next level.
- Presentation: Becoming an Illustrator – The Real Life of an Illustrator:
How I Became an Illustrator:
I share my personal journey, from growing up around art in my grandparents' screen-printing studio to building a career as an illustrator. I talk about the ups and downs, how I found my artistic style, and the importance of persistence when following a creative path.
The Reality of Life as an Illustrator:
In this honest talk, I give a behind-the-scenes look at what life as an illustrator is really like—from juggling projects and deadlines to managing the business side of things. I also share how I stay inspired and keep my creativity alive, even when the workload is intense. It’s a great session for anyone curious about turning their passion into a career.

Each workshop and presentation can be tailored to the group’s needs, and my goal is always to inspire participants to explore their creativity. I love creating a relaxed, welcoming space where everyone—whether they’re new to drawing or seasoned creatives—feels empowered to create and express themselves.
