Angie Cui

Angie is a Melbourne-based writer with a multicultural perspective shaped by her tri-cultural family (Australian, Bangladeshi, and Chinese). Her books include My Mum is a Bird and Our Map, with another title forthcoming in 2026. Her work emphasises themes of diversity, imagination, and connection, and she's passionate about inspiring readers and writers of all ages. Angie's presentations cater not only to children but also to adults, including carers/parents, teachers, librarians and aspiring writers (or anyone who loves books!).

Angie has also contributed to publications such as The GuardianSydney Morning Herald, and ABC Everyday, discussing storytelling and cultural parenting.

About My Books 

  • My Mum is a Bird (University of Queensland Press April 1, 2025, with translation offers from Europe and Asia): A delightfully absurd yet touching story about celebrating differences and loving your family—feathers and all. Illustrated by the talented Evie Barrow, this book is sure to swoop into the hearts of young readers.
  • Our Map (Wombat Books June 5, 2025): A heartwarming exploration of friendship, heritage, and imagination, encouraging children and families to embrace diversity and see the beauty in their cultural stories.
